It was powerful to see people of all hues take a stand against the lingering systematic oppression that ended the lives of Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, Freddie Gray, Samuel DuBose and countless others.
Millennials, in particular, have hundreds of cases, but thanks to the Internet, we’re able to invoke some type of change-or at least awareness-on a larger scale.įor the past three years, I took part in protests both actively and on the sidelines as a reporter and a civilian in New York City. When it comes to racial and societal injustices, every generation has had their unfair share of outcry. It’s no secret that 2015 was the year civil unrest flipped its lid and had the country slapping on kufis en masse.
